This Privacy Policy (together with our terms of use and any other documents referred to on it) explains what happens to any personal data that you provide to us, or that we collect from you, including when you visit our website or give us information in person or by email or social media messages. Personal data is information that can be used to identify or contact a single person. 


By visiting the website you are accepting and consenting to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. 


By joining CANTERBURY STRENGTH WEIGHT LIFTING CLUB  ( as a member you (if over 13 years old) or your legal guardian consent to the member being bound by all relevant rules, codes and policies governing the activities and conduct of the members including, without limitation, the Rules and Expectations, Child Protection and Anti-Doping Policies of CANTERBURY STRENGTH WEIGHT LIFTING CLUB  ( These policies can be found on the website under the resources tab. 


For the purpose of the Data Protection Act 2018 UK, the Data Controller is Canterbury Strength Weight Lifting Club. Information we collect about you is done so for the Data Controllers legitimate interests for the purpose of personalising the service we provide to you.


Your data will be retained all the time you are a member of Canterbury Strength Weight Lifting Club. Personal Data will be routinely removed after you have not been in contact with the club for two months, and if you return after this period you will be asked for information again.


What personal data do we collect? 


We collect the minimum data that we can to enable us to deliver the services that we offer. This will include your name, contact details, emergency contact details, some background health information, and some personal preferences.


You may give us this information by filling in forms on our website, by corresponding with us by telephone, e-mail, by completing surveys, by filling in membership forms or otherwise. 


Where we ask you for personal data we will make it clear why the data is being requested, but it will only ever be for contacting you in relation to the weight lifting club or to be able to provide you with suitable training and advice based on information you give us about yourself. Any information given to use for these purposes will be kept in the form of a client/athlete profile so that we are able to get to know you and provide you with the best possible coaching/service. These physical copy files will be kept in locked storage. Information will only be processed by the staff at Canterbury Strength Weight Lifting Club.


You are not legally required to provide the personal information that we have requested. If you chose not to do so, in some cases we will not be able to provide you with our services or respond to any queries you may have if you do not provide the information. 


In some cases we are required to collect sensitive personal information (e.g. equality information) in order to provide anonymised reports to Public Funding Bodies. Where possible, we will always give you the option to ‘Prefer not to say’. We also will ask you questions about health, injuries and medication again to be able to assess the suitability of exercises and training techniques for you as an individual based on your information. 


In addition to the data you choose to provide us with, (or organisations acting for us) may collect and process the following data about you: 

Information about your use of our website with regards to each of your visits to our website. This may include: (i) details of your visits such as pages viewed and the resources that you access; and (ii) technical information, such as traffic data, location data and other communication data. In our case this information is collected by businesses such as Google and social media companies based on people’s actions on our website and social media pages. This information does not generally include any personal data unless you personally take action on a social media page for example by commenting on or liking a picture. 


Please remember that when you contact us via our website or social media we will then have contact details for you. These will not be shared outside of Canterbury Strength Weight Lifting Club, and will only be kept in order to contact you in reply. 


Information we receive from other sources: We may receive information about you from other organisations that we work closely with. Any information you give us may be added to our database and will be processed in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 UK. 


We will never sell, rent, or otherwise provide your personally identifiable information to any third parties (excluding those trusted organisations such as those that carry out functions or membership services on our behalf or partner organisations) unless you give us permission to do so, or we are obliged or permitted by law to disclose it or where it is necessary for the purpose of or in connection with legal proceedings or in order to exercise or defend legal rights.

We will communicate with you through email, notices posted on our websites and other means. By joining CANTERBURY STRENGTH WEIGHT LIFTING CLUB ( you are indicating your consent to receive statutory notices to the email address (or other contact details) you supply and accept that you are responsible for updating our records if your email address or other personal details change. 


Our communications may include emails which help inform you about matters relevant to your membership or training at the club and emails related to the proper functioning of your account & information. 


Information sent to you will not be sent out by an automated service, only by our coaches when necessary to contact you about club information. If you do not wish to receive updates please let us know, however these will usually only be important information. If you believe you have received electronic communications in error please contact CANTERBURY STRENGTH WEIGHT LIFTING CLUB  ( immediately so that we can rectify the problem. It is not the intention of CANTERBURY STRENGTH WEIGHT LIFTING CLUB ( to send you communication you do not wish to receive. In an effort to keep costs down we may not in all cases be able to provide you with an alternative communication method. 


All email messages to or from CANTERBURY STRENGTH WEIGHT LIFTING CLUB ( may be monitored to ensure compliance with internal policies and for our mutual protection.

From time to time we work with partner organisations to manage and deliver some of the services that we offer our membership.
